Choosing the Right Outfit

When choosing your outfit, it is important to consider the image you want to project. A professional, neutral outfit such as a suit or dress pants and blouse is often a good choice. Avoid overly casual clothing or items with logos or busy patterns. It’s important to dress the way you want to project your image to potential clients.

Headshot Lighting

Proper lighting is also essential for a successful real estate headshot. In Studio headshots are often best because the photographer can control the lighting and so your face will be evenly lit.  Natural light is also an option, as it can help create a warm, welcoming feel. Avoid harsh, direct lighting as it can create shadows and make you look harsh.

4 Tips to Look Good in Business Headshots

You are an ambitious, professional, successful person. You run your own company, you’re the CEO, you’re the boss, and you’re looking out the window of the world. And yet, as you gaze into the horizon, you feel something lacking. You want your image to be polished and perfected. You want your brand to be cohesive. You want your hair to be just right. So, why not take the time to show yourself a little love in the form of professional headshots? Yes, you can do this on your own. But, what was that? You want to look your very best. And so, to continue our quest to help the tired and hungry, we offer you the following tips to take higher-quality headshots.

Why Looking Professional in Business Headshots So Important?

Let’s face it; most businesses are expanding their reach and bringing in more customers. And, what are customers looking for in a company? In short, they’re looking for a professional business image that they can associate with excellence and quality. And being a representative of a company, a department, or a unit, you are a prime example as to how the company is perceived by others. Your business headshot is not about reality; it’s about what others see. Because you are a leader, a person of influence, your appearance must mirror the character of your company.

So, what does this mean for you? It means that you need to project the image you want your company to convey, which is professionalism. Your appearance needs to reflect a certain aura of power, of command. Here are four tips to look good in business headshots:

1. Professional Lighting Is Must

To present your best image, you need to look at every element of the image and ensure that it is doing its job. Professional lighting is fundamental in producing a headshot that is elegant, well lit, and professional. You want your business headshot to look professional, so you need a professional. This means that it should not be taken by a friend or a family member on their phone or an un-professional digital camera. Ask the photographer to bring lighting equipment. This will ensure that you get the right look the first time. You also want to pay attention to how you are lit. Don’t stand under the spotlight. You want your face to be evenly lit, with light only hitting the front of your face and not the sides. You might also want to have assistance with your hair or clothing to ensure that it is draped well and is attractive.

2. Never Get A Haircut Right Before Headshots

Haircuts can make a big difference in how you look in a business headshot. It can either be a learning experience or an unfortunate interruption to your plans. When you get your haircut, you are adjusting the flow of energy around your head and face. So, it’s important that you get a haircut that you plan to keep for a while so that your business headshot will be as gorgeous as you are. If you have recently had a haircut, book your business headshots a few days or weeks from now. If you can’t wait, make sure your hairdresser is familiar with professional headshot photography and can make your new look “picture-worthy.”

3. Layered Clothing for Effect

One of the best ways to look professional in your business headshots is by wearing layered clothing. Layered clothing gives you more options to play with to showcase multiple colors. Take advantage of this to give your business headshot that extra punch… a look that informs your viewers that you are a highly professional, serious, and reliable person.

4. Match It to Your Brand

Do not wear one of your husband’s dress shirts and then pair it with your skinny jeans and fancy heels. You want to dress the part that best matches your brand. As much as possible, wear clothing that reflects your personal brand. You want to look like you have a cohesive core about yourself and your business. This helps viewers associate you with quality, professionalism, and success. Watch your hair, makeup, and accessories. You want to look strong, powerful, and smart. You want to look like you’re in command. This is something that clothing can express.

Final Thoughts

Professionalism is a necessity. Your image can communicate a lot about yourself and your company. In your business headshots, you want to be uniform, consistent, and strong. You want to appear like you’re in control. Follow these

How Should I Prepare for My Headshot

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY HEADSHOT

Preparing for your headshot shouldn’t be complicated or stressful. These tips will help you feel prepared and ready to go on the day of your shoot.

Bring 4-6 tops to choose from the day of your shoot. Consider bringing layers, a nice blazer, or sweater that can go over the tops and provide a different look. Remember only to get items that you LOVE wearing!

Make sure your clothes are ironed and ready to go the day before your shoot, so you aren’t stressed out about ironing clothes and picking out what to wear minutes before leaving the house. Remember wrinkly clothes will show on camera.

Choose simple muted tones over bold prints. Bold prints will take away from the focus of a headshot, which is YOU!

Keep accessories to a minimum. If Jewelry is a part of your brand, I recommend keeping it to a minimum of stud earrings or a structured necklace like pearls. Be sure to make sure the necklace isn’t too long that it intersects with the neckline of your top.

Make sure to keep the makeup subtle. A natural look always looks best in headshots. It is best to avoid eyeliner on the bottom lid, “cat eye,” and red lipstick. If you are not sure how much makeup to wear, think about a “no-makeup” makeup look. Make sure to pack your hair/makeup items that you may need so you can touch up after changing outfits.

Keep Hydrated and get plenty of sleep the week leading up to your headshot session. This is paramount to good looking skin and a healthy glow.

That’s It! Now you are ready for an amazing headshot!

Staying Ahead of Competition with Corporate Headshots

You might be thinking: how do corporate headshots get me more deals? How does it attract customers and rare talent to my business? More importantly, why should you get one?

Why Corporate Headshots Work

We live in a visual world, where images are around us nonstop. From the streets to your smartphones to even the products you consume: you’d find pictures everywhere.

What better way to spur your brand into the spotlight than to key into modern reality?

Pictures indeed tell a thousand stories. You might not be listening, but your audience is. They interpret your photographs as your core values. How?

A prospective employee wants to know how you treat your current employees. Are they happy? How do they appear? Is there a work-life balance? What’s your brand culture?

On the other hand, customers want to gain first-hand knowledge of your human relationships. If you can’t paint your employees in the best light, how can you help them?

For that reason, you need a corporate headshot not only for you but your group as a whole: a professional headshot that summarizes your brand story and complements your about page.

On LinkedIn, people with a corporate headshot get 14x more engagement than others without one. Whom would you choose to lead your legal battles? James Ross in tees and baseball cap or James Ross in a suit and a smile?

Mind you, going all-suit might not work at all times. Your business might be different and require a more creative or casual look. That is why professional photographers can help consult with the appropriate look for your company’s needs.

Now that you know why headshots work. Let’s see the benefits you’d get when you get one.

4 Reasons Why a Professional Headshot Matters in Business

In today’s digital age, our digital identities have increasingly become integral parts of our lives, serving as self-portraits that reflect who we are, who we want to be, and how other people see us.

I’m talking about our profile picture on Facebook, Instagram, social media posts, and our avatar on professional networking sites like LinkedIn, SlideShare, etc. With our virtual presence representing us online, our personal brand online must be aligned because a poorly-presented digital identity can hamper others’ first impressions of us and negatively impact our professional connections.

Whether you’re a business owner, an entrepreneur or an employee looking for a job, having a professional photo is one of the most important things in business. Here are four reasons why:

1. The Perfect Introduction:

No matter where you are working, your professional headshot plays a critical role in establishing your first impression with your new organization.

For those in high-profile positions, it’s important to present a positive first impression as your leadership and presence will be needed to establish a lasting impression and lead the company towards success. Your avatar needs to project maturity, confidence, and individuality while representing what you are all about, what your passion is, and what you want to convey to the world. It’s important to make your preference is known, which may include subtle, crafted, groomed, or all-out image that represents you best.

For those who have an eccentric fashion sense, it’s important to be true to your brand while keeping certain aspects of your personal expression in mind.

2. Eliminating the Guesswork:

Most companies nowadays are utilizing professional networking platforms to find potential employees. With that being said, networking sites like LinkedIn are becoming more and more important for a business-to-business and business-to-consumer connection. When you’re first creating your profile, it’s critical to have a professional headshot or avatar that compliments your professional image, translates well across the web and provides a standard of comparison for your skills, experiences, and background.

Professionals who are new to the networking world may be surprised to find out that having a well-presented digital identity is just as important as your resume, business card, and cover letter. Having a picture that represents you in a positive light can be a powerful and essential tool in your professional arsenal. When employers and coworkers are looking at your profile for the first time, you want to make sure they understand your value and see the ways you can contribute to the organization you are working with.

3. It’s Your Business Card:

Today it’s common for people to skimp out on the importance of the physical business card. While traditional marketing materials are important, they aren’t always in the right hands, making a good digital avatar an essential tool of business. Your professional headshot is a reflection of your business. It helps build a personal brand and project a professional image that builds trust and value. This is extremely important during first interactions because it helps build rapport and confidence with those you are working with and connecting with. With such growing importance of digital presence, your online identity becomes an increasingly critical component of your overall presence.

4. Quality Is Everything:

In the digital space, people tend to only contact or hire those whose professional identities on social networks are high-quality, curated, or polished to perfection. In fact, according to a survey conducted by Career Builder, 70% of hiring managers and HR professionals stated that social media plays an important role in their decision-making process. That being said, careful consideration should be given to every detail when building your online presence.

A professional headshot, which features you in dynamic, professional poses, can easily elevate your personal brand and help you differentiate yourself from the rest of the pack.

In conclusion, the benefits of having a professional headshot are immense. It not only helps boost confidence, but it also gives you a competitive edge against the other professionals in the workforce. In addition, it helps employers and clients see the unique value you add to their organization. So, the next time you’re thinking about how best to advance professionally, consider investing in your professional headshot.
